Roommates Zine - ryanmichael

$20.00

Roommates is a collection of collage work and select photography over the year 2025. At the time, when creating the pieces for this collection I was living alone, and so, ironically I named the collection ‘Roommates".

Living away from home and getting older I have found myself contemplating memory, desire, dream and age. And so, naturally those are the themes that I think come forward when I look through this collection.

Abstraction is the main force that moves this project. Many of the pieces are reflections of my childhood growing up in rural western Ohio. Impressions of what’s left in my memory. So much of getting older is proving to myself that I’ve lived.

Portrait photography was aimed to celebrate youth and the ordinary. Cinematic images of quotidian mornings that appear dream-like. I wanted to capture how I thought I would look in memory. How a lover might look back on me.

The ocean is a symbol of god and spirituality and so it appears frequently throughout this project. The shore has been a place of massive breakthrough and expression for me. It only felt natural to add pieces of the water to this project.
